Commitment is key for swingthroughs, but if you still need a way to progress safely into a harder swingthrough trick, learn to use bottom tier tricks that will land on the hands first. Generally people go immediately to gainer flash, and other similarly tiered tricks, for their first swingthrough attempts, but a swingthrough valdez (also known as a touchdown gainer) may feel safer, since it requires less flip, and you can actively catch yourself. Similarly, rather than swinging directly into raiz, or even aerial, a gumbi or cartwheel may help to refine the technique safely. Even just launching the swing and jumping wildly into the air can be a useful progression. Find what feels most comfortable to you, and exploit it as long as necessary.
