Rapids are the second form of a missleg, and are essential just faster versions. Simply put, a rapid is a one legged punch, or an instant transition from one trick to the next, on one leg. The landing leg touches down, and immediately rebounds off the ground into the next trick. Because of the speed of this transition, it is often used not for power, but for aesthetics and rhythmic changes.
Notice the similarities between the transitions in the video above. They are essentially the same thing.
